1. electricity consumption: your household's annual electricity consumption is the most important starting point. An average household consumes around 3,000 to 5,000 kWh per year. As a rule of thumb: Annual electricity consumption × 2.5 = recommended kWp output. Example: 4,000 kWh consumption results in a recommended system size of approx. 10 kWp.

2. output of the solar system (kWp): The output of a photovoltaic system is measured in kilowatt peak (kWp), with 1 kWp representing the maximum output under ideal conditions. A solar system with 1 kWp supplies an average of 900 to 1,100 kWh of electricity per year in Germany.

3. roof area and orientation: Your roof area and the orientation of the roof play an important role in the dimensioning of the solar system. A south-facing roof is ideal as it is exposed to the most sunlight. With an east-west orientation or limited roof area, you may need to adjust the size of the system. - Space requirement: A solar system with 1 kWp requires around 6-8 m² of roof space. This can vary depending on the module type and roof pitch selected.
